Because Thomas was so wise, he was the most humble of men. One day when it was his turn to read to his brother friars during their meal the Superior suggested that he had mispronounced a word. Thomas immediately re-read it with the Superior's pronunciation. Afterwards some of the friars said to Thomas that he should not have done it, since Thomas's pronunciation was right and the Superior's wrong.
"No," said Thomas. "The pronunciation of a word is of little importance, but humility and obedience are of the greatest."
