Chemistry on the Range for Third Grade

We don't follow the Mater Amabilis™ plan for third grade science, though we do cover atoms and molecules. First Son did Noeo Chemistry 1 and First Daughter did The Elements and some of what he had done. Finally, with Second Daughter, I think I have a third grade chemistry course tailored for us!

Books and Resources:
An asterisk marks the ones we'll use over multiple days.

How it works:

Many of the concepts introduced in these books are complicated so I've made the readings quite short on most days. Second Daughter will read on her own twice a week and narrate. I expect I will be helping her through many of the activities and readings to make sure she's understanding at a basic level. She doesn't have to learn it all! On another day, we'll do an experiment or play a game. Those are the Exploration Days.

The readings, even twice a week, only take 24 weeks, so there's time to drop a book or combine just a few readings to make the readings only once a week. Or you can slow down even more and play more games with your student without worrying about getting behind.

  2. Thanks! I knew if I didn't actually put the book in the lesson plans, we just wouldn't do anything from it. And it's a book both my older children enjoyed so I didn't want to miss it.
